Weekly Update 03/01/2022

Good afternoon,

I've loved having South Woodsians filling parts of the building prior to the worship service for the past month or so. At 9:00 this past Sunday morning, we had a room full of preschool volunteers going through training and a room of Bible Study Group leaders prepping to re–begin Romans shortly. Things we haven't done in a while are hinting at their upcoming return.

Speaking of that, some aspects of missions have had to be rethought over the past couple years. And one of the reasons we did the Andy Johnson book was to talk through that as a church. I'm eager to hear what Pastor Phil, Chris, Joe Accardo, and the Starrs have to say about that subject tomorrow night. In many ways, we did the book study so that it might culminate in this presentation tomorrow night. We'll have childcare for birth through three–year–olds, just like on Sundays. So, let me encourage you to join the body tomorrow night at 6:30 to hear a forward–thinking perspective on South Woods' involvement in getting the gospel to the ends of the earth. Again, things we haven't done in a while are hinting at their upcoming return.

I saw Jim and Nancy boxing up bottles on Sunday. And the box was full! Thank you for helping serve Life Choices in this way. They won't set up the table this coming Sunday, but feel free to drop bottles off in the church office or hand one to Nancy Carnes or Reneé Teate.

I'll reiterate what Pastor Phil said about the building last week. I couldn't agree more with his talking points: (1) We don't know, precisely. (2) But, soon. What that means is that finishing touches are being done in various parts of the building. Inspections are ahead, which will give us access to the building. But be sure, when we're approved for "occupancy," Bible Study Groups will begin shortly thereafter. And what Wednesday nights used to look like will begin shortly thereafter that. Again, things we haven't done in a while are hinting at their upcoming return.

Do be praying for Pastor Phil as he teaches at a Pillar intensive today and tomorrow. It begins at 5:30 today. You can see more info at this link: https://www.thepillarnetwork.com/events/2022/3/1/2022-pillar-intensive

The Lord deeply ministered to me in Acts 19 last week. The circumstances of the day–to–day for many of us can feel deafening. But Artemis of the Ephesians is not great. She's not even close. She doesn't rule a single thing. We gathered Sunday to worship the One who does. If you missed Sunday's sermon on the mob in Ephesus, you can read or watch it here: (Acts 19:21–41 - Who is Artemis of the Ephesians?)

We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow night!

Matt
