South Woods’ Purpose Statement: We purpose to make disciples who joyfully serve Christ together in ministry and missions.
In word and deed we are to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ--that is the core of our purpose. The apostle Paul expressed this kind of centrality in 1 Corinthians 2:2, "For I decided to know nothing among you except Jesus Christ and him crucified." Christ's life for sinners is the sum of our message. Yet, this same Paul, writing by the same Holy Spirit, also taught in Titus 2 that the church must live out her faith in a manner that "adorns the doctrine of God." The Christian gospel is to be declared by the church and is to be decorated by her sacrificial deeds. We desire that Memphians believe this gospel--the only gospel that saves from God's just wrath and the only gospel that propels us to love our neighbor in Christ-like ways and with Christ-directed motivation. We seek to spread and adorn this gospel every other month through our Mercy for Memphis events.
Local Mercy Ministries
Moriah House
Moriah House is Memphis Union Mission’s long-term recovery program for women and their children. South Woods is involved with this home for abused and battered women in Memphis. We have an ongoing opportunity to keep children while their mothers are in a Bible study, with other events coordinated throughout the year.

Oak Forest Elementary
Located behind our church, this school has given us an open invite to serve them in multiple ways. From volunteering during a school day to helping out with lunch duties, opportunities to serve the teachers, students and parents are limited mainly by our availability.

Neighborhood Events
In the various neighborhoods represented throughout our congregation, the aim is to engage our neighbors with seeking ways to serve them, enjoying food with them, i.e. a cookout, caroling around the Christmas season, etc.
