Weekly Update 02/15/2022

Greetings!

It’s good to be back in Memphis and back into the swing of life together at South Woods. I loved being back in the pulpit on Sunday and getting to see folks that I have prayed for throughout the time away. Thank you for the sabbatical. It is a wonderful investment that you make in your pastors and our wives to give us those times of focus, study, prayer, writing, catching up on discussion, and reflection. I was able to complete several of my goals for the 4-weeks, for which I’m thankful to the Lord for His mercies.

We finish up with the ladies tomorrow night the wonderfully helpful book, Missions, by Andy Johnson. We’re looking at the last two chapters which help us to see more of how the local church can engage in missions. I look forward to leading this time with the ladies. Our teenagers will be meeting at Matt & Julie’s home at 6:00 for their study and fellowship, so be sure to drop them off first before heading to the church building.

We’re seeing some good progress this week in the building. We’ve got people working on floors (new carpet in the entry and flooring down the west hallway), painting, installing new fire-rated doors, and finishing up the men’s bathroom. Are we finished yet? No, not quite. But it’s looking much better. Thank you for your patience and support.

We looked on Sunday at the indwelling Holy Spirit as the primary evidence of life in Christ. That’s the way it’s shown throughout the New Testament. Plus, that’s the promise in the new covenant prophesied by Jeremiah and Ezekiel. I hope that the searching questions of our text proved helpful to stir meditation on assurance of salvation. As we mention often, if you’d like to talk with any of the pastors about your salvation, please let us know. We’d love to be pointers to the sufficiency in Jesus. You can check out Sunday’s sermon here.

We will continue to work through Acts 19 this week and the next, with both showing the power of the message of Jesus in the midst of opposition and even demonic conflict. Pray that the Lord might visit us as we listen together to the proclamation of God’s Word.

Warmly,
Phil N.
