Weekly Update 08/17/2021

Good afternoon,

What a joy it was Sunday to gather, worship, and pray the very things we saw the Antioch church do in Acts 13. If you missed that sermon on "The Church that Sends," you can watch or read it here: https://subspla.sh/mn7hdpy

Pastor Phil prayed for this Sunday, but let's continue to be interceding for parents, teachers, and the students in our body that have ramped things up the past couple weeks at school. Might the Lord sharpen the thinking of our children, as they love Him with their minds, so that He might use them for His honor in the days ahead.

Likewise, the Lord is undoubtedly using South Woods' healthcare workers to serve a despairing community. The Antioch church faced those kinds of pressures too. Let's pray for our brothers and sisters in that arena, that the Lord might strengthen their hands and hearts.
Not to turn the update into a prayer request list, but Pastor Phil and I both want to continue asking the body to intercede for Afghanistan. Two of our 2-per mission partners, Josh M. and Mark Morris, have written helpful pieces to help the church do so. Josh M's post is here: https://www.9marks.org/article/afghan-pastors-ask-for-prayer/ Mark Morris's post can be read here: https://www.thegospelcoalition.org/article/afghanistan-afghan-pastors/
Pastor Phil and I commend these to you.

On Sunday morning, I'll pick up in Acts 13:4–12, when Paul and Barnabas run into their first challenge on this particular journey, a Jewish pseudo–prophet magician by the name of Bar–Jesus.

Tomorrow night our children will gather for their classes, and the men will continue studying Matt Merker's book on worship. We look forward to seeing many of you then!

All of Christ's blessings on this Tuesday,
Matt
