Weekly Update 07/06/2021
Greetings!
No sign up this week! Thankfully, we get started with ONE WORSHIP SERVICE this Sunday at 10:15 A.M.! After over a year of tripling and doubling services, we’re thankful that the time has come to gather together in one time of worship and celebration of the mercies of our Lord. I look forward to seeing everyone together!
Pastor Chris served us so faithfully on Sunday with a worshipful, instructive, and challenging exposition of Acts 10:23–43. The gospel came to Cornelius and his household by toppling century deep walls of resistance and bias against the Lord working in the Gentiles. The book of Acts celebrates this grand advance of the gospel and Christ’s kingdom by devoting so much space in the Scriptures to this short timeframe (chapters 10–11). It bears our attention and application. You can watch or read the sermon from Sunday, here.
We’ll see this coming Sunday how the Word and Spirit did the work needed to bring people into the joyous, demonstrative experience of relationship to Jesus Christ. Pray toward that time of our hearing the Word together as we consider Acts 10:44–48.
For those interested in membership at South Woods, we will be having four-weeks of membership classes beginning on Sunday morning, 9:00, August 8th through August 29th. These classes will last about 50 minutes, as the elders lead this time by considering our church’s history, the gospel, our doctrinal statement, the church (ecclesiology), our church’s polity (governance), and our missions and ministries. Let any of the pastors know of your interest in attending the classes. They are prerequisite to membership at South Woods.
We will be having the men gathering tomorrow night at 6:30 for the ongoing study in Devoted to God. We’re working through one biblical text after another in Sinclair Ferguson’s extraordinary book about the Christian life, seeing in each what it means to live out the Christian life each day. I’m thankful for the good participation and application. The children will be meeting for Wisdom Wednesdays as they study and learn together from God’s Word (Pre-K through 6th grade).
One service on Sunday at 10:15! We will be celebrating the Lord’s Supper together (how appropriate!), so prepare for that time of joining together in the covenant meal for the body of Christ. Lord willing, we’ll be welcoming some new members, too. See you then.
