Weekly Update 12/08/2020

Greetings!

Thank you so much for the way you responded to the note on Saturday about wearing masks when entering and exiting the services. You did a great job and worked hard on the social distancing (even though that is hard for us to do because of our desire to fellowship with one another—and rightly so!). I’m repeating the note at the end of this update in case any of you missed it earlier.

As we look ahead, we’re excited to introduce a monthly Sunday evening services where several of our guys will be expounding the book of Habakkuk, as we worship together at 6:00 p.m. We will apply the same social distancing as with Sunday morning but in one service. The dates for these services will be January 10 & 31 (the only month with two services), February 28, March 28, April 25, and May 23. Pray for Jim Carnes, Joe Accardo, Andy Fortner, Steve Runer, Steven Hockman, and Drew Harris as they lead these worship services.

Tomorrow night we continue the STINT study of Gentle & Lowly at 6:30 for the men and the teenagers. We’ll be in chapters 12–13.

A number of you have asked about the Christmas Card Box. Unfortunately, after evaluating the pros and cons that might arise with bunching up at the box, we decided it wouldn’t be prudent to do the box this year. I know this is disappointing! But feel free to hand cards out or mail, per your preference.

As has been our custom, we do a special 2-Per emphasis in December on the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering for International Missions. I’m grateful for the generosity that the church has shown during these opportunities to support the work going on around the globe with the International Mission Board. A number of our folks are presently or in the past served with the IMB and know how important these gifts are each year. Here’s a link to the IMB website that offers a few details of what’s currently going on with our international workers: https://www.imb.org/lottie-moon-christmas-offering/. Also, a video link for the week of prayer https://vimeo.com/showcase/7416888. (check out Day 1, it is Kristen and it is fabulous!)

We have journeyed through two of the 28 chapters in Acts. We’re seeing how the Spirit works in the local church and the contagious atmosphere of lives transformed by the gospel. Much more is to come! We’ll see an extraordinary sight in chapter 3, as a man who had never walked is healed and begins “walking and leaping and praising God!” Join us Sunday for this time of seeing the power of Christ at work.

See you Sunday, Lord willing.

Phil N.
