Weekly Update 03/29/2022

Greetings!

We’re excited about Saturday’s workday! We get started at 8:30 and end up around noon, with lunch provided. As we’ve mentioned before, we’ll be moving things that are stored all over the building and off the church campus, to the right spot to get set for beginning our Bible Study Groups on April 10th. We hope that we have a big group to team up for the inside and work on the grounds, too (weather permitting). I love the way that South Woods’ folks team together to help beautify the grounds! We have such a beautiful place to gather. I’m glad that we can improve the surroundings to enjoy it all the more.

Speaking of Bible Study Groups (a.k.a. Sunday School), we are pumped to finally resume what we have not been able to do for 2 years due to the combination of Covid restrictions and building in upheaval for the remodeling and addition. Now that the building is completed (okay, a little touch up here and there is happening), we’re ready to get started with classes for everyone. We’ll be sending out something soon for the classes. Meanwhile, help out on Saturday and pray for the Lord’s kind blessings on the classes.

Do you have a Bible Study Group to attend starting April 10th? What a great time to get started in studying Romans! As I pointed out a couple of Sundays ago, it would do us well to live in Romans since it is probably the most comprehensive view of understanding “the whole purpose of God,” as Paul mentioned in Acts 20.

Tomorrow night the guys will be studying Jeff Robinson’s Taming the Tongue at 6:30, with the children doing their last Wisdom Wednesday before we return to our Sunday Bible Study Group format. Join us!

On Sunday, I presented the unanimous recommendation from our elders that we elevate Chris Wilbanks’ pastoral position to full-time status. This will be really important for us in mid-May when I step down from my pastoral position. We will ask the church to affirm this change in Chris’ pastoral status on April 10th, with anticipation, upon the church’s affirmation, of Chris being full-time starting April 19th. The elders will continue to evaluate and make plans for how to best serve the congregation with pastoral staff.

We’re opening up some important truths for the church in our exposition of Acts 20. Paul’s brief journey while a ship unloaded and loaded up, proved to be one of the most significant moments in the life of the church. Matt and I have enjoyed teaming up on this strategic portion of the Word. I hope that you’re encouraged by it. Last Sunday, Matt unpacked the central portion of Paul’s address, with responsibilities for elders and congregation identified. This week he will be concluding the study in Acts 20 by seeing how ultimately, the apostle depended upon the grace of God to sustain the church. Pray for him as he prepares and the body as we worship together.

Rejoice in the Lord!

Phil N.
