Studies in the Baptist Catechism

Catechisms at one time were foundational for the undergirding of the truth in Baptist life. An early example of a Baptist catechism, and in fact the one on which many others were based, was Benjamin Keach's Baptist Catechism. Keach (1640-1704), who was the pastor at Horse-lie-down, Southwalk, England, took the Westminster Shorter Catechism and "baptized" it, rewriting those sections of the catechism which were not in line with Baptist doctrine.

In the Youth Ministry at South Woods, we seek to once again bring catechisms to the forefront of religious education of students. One way we are doing this task is by teaching through the catechism, one question at a time, as a systematic theology.

Below you will find the outlines that we use in our Wednesday Night Youth Discipleship.

Question 1 - What is the chief end of man?
Question 2 - What rule hath God given to direct us how we may glorify and enjoy Him?
Question 3 - What do the scriptures principally teach?
Question 4 - What is God?
